Electric Toothbrush Pressure Sensors Explained
Brushing harder does not automatically mean brushing better. Excessive force can be uncomfortable and may contribute to gum irritation or enamel wear over time.
What a pressure sensor does
A pressure sensor detects when you are applying more force than the toothbrush considers appropriate. Depending on the model, feedback may be provided through a light, vibration, display or changes in the brushing action.
How to use the feature
Let the brush do the work. Use light, controlled contact and follow the manufacturer's instructions for positioning and movement.
Is a pressure sensor essential?
It is not essential for everyone, but it is a useful coaching feature—particularly if you know you tend to press hard.
Remember
A pressure sensor does not replace professional dental advice. If you have persistent bleeding, pain or other dental symptoms, speak with a qualified dental professional.
